CalNetAD
provides the following centrally funded services for the campus:

Support for the hardware, security, redundancy, and backup for
the domain controller machines that run the CalNetAD forest

Delegated management for OU Administrators

Integration with the campus CalNet authentication service which
allows CalNet authentication at the desktop

Integration with the campus CalNet
directory service which automatically creates the single sign-on
accounts for faculty, staff, affiliates, and students in CalNetAD

Integration with the campus (BIND-based) DNS service
-
Microsoft Active
Directory Migration Tool (ADMT) assistance

Easier computer resource management through Group
Policy Objects (GPO), remote software installation, and the
establishment of minimum security requirements. The CalNetAD service
provides templates and advice on security
GPOs.

Forum for discussion of Active Directory and Active Directory Security
issues through a Planning Committee

Central logging of Domain Controller (DC) events and changes in
the CalNetAD Change Management
System (CCMS)

page to help administrators find a quick solution to common problems.

In the future, the service hopes to provide additional administrative
web services for changing passwords, migrating single sign-on accounts,
etc.
